Hickory House

HAMPDEN: BALTIMORE, MARYLAND

This project is a rowhouse located in the kitschy-cool Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore. We transformed the unremarkable “decorator ready” interior into a swanky, Mid-Century Modern-influenced bachelor pad featuring locally-sourced vintage furnishings and Classic Modern icons.

BESPOKE – COOL – MASCULINE

The owner is a financier who purchased the property as a city pied-à-tier and guest home. He wanted us to pay homage to Baltimore in our design. This can be seen throughout the home not only in the selection of artwork and archival photography, but especially in the custom “Baltimore Toile” office wallcovering we designed in collaboration with local cartoonist and illustrator Tom Chalkley (@graphics.by.chalk).

The primary bedroom was one of our favorite spaces to design, taking cues from the homeowner’s professional wardrobe. The fabrics and finishes in the space suggest men’s business attire, such as the herringbone weave of the Schumacher wallcovering and the tweed upholstery on the headboard; but perhaps the most special design element is the duvet cover, handmade from pinstriped wool suiting fabric sourced from a long-time South Baltimore haberdasher.
